Gracie Gray
Sometimes with loss comes a new friend....My friend Paula recently lost a beloved pet guinea pig, Minos (he was an absolute stud piggie btw). In the process of talking about losing him and finding a new family member we got on http://www.petfinders.com/ and she was able to find an new member to her family, a beautiful little kitten by the name of Checkers. But, in the search I also found a new member to my family, Gracie Gray, a 1 & 1/2 year old Russian Blue cat. Already she has made a home for herself at the foot of my bed along with the place in my heart.

My Little Reprieve
I spent a day with the "Scrap Addict" aka Paula. We worked on challenges all day. My grandson and I had a blast at her little paradise in Arkansas. I have to honestly say that I have never walked away without a new idea or something that Paula had set aside just for me. This time I completed more challenges than I ever have, enjoyed the great company of a very good friend and my very own shelf for my little scrap booking reprieve corner of the world (Thank you Ron! aka Paula's hubby). I still need to add a coat of paint but had to hang it up just to give it a trial run...I love it!

Challenges From The Attic #6 (Black & White)
Challenge number six from the Attic (http://challengesfromtheattic.blogspot.com/2010/10/challenges-6-black-white.html) was to only use black and white. I loved the simplicity of this challenge! Here is my black and white submission that will hopefully make someone feel better one day.

Think Pink
Recently a very good friend of mine, Mariann Morgan did a 60 second breast cancer awareness radio spot for St. John's Hospital, in Joplin, MO. In that short time she told the world of her survival, she spoke of how breast cancer had not been in her familial history, nor had she noticed a lump. She always took precautions doing self-breast exams and undergoing mammograms yearly from the time she was 40. But life got a little hectic and 3 years ago, she thought about putting off that years exam. Then she received a reminder card in the mail from St. Johns, she made the time and set up an appointment. She was very grateful for this card because it was at this exam that her cancer was discovered. Even though the cancer was at a stage zero she had to undergo a mastectomy and radiation treatment. Imagine what stage it would be at if she had put it off. She recommends all women not put off getting a mammogram. Mariann is a very private person and yet opened up to help the women in her community be aware, I have to say I am very proud of her.
Here is my "think pink" card that was made with all the survivors and the current fighters (like my SAA pal Dana) of breast cancer in mind.

Let Them Eat Cake!
I have many "hobbies" one is cake decorating. I have made hundreds of cakes over the years but here are some of and my absolute favorite. BTW they were all very tasty!
Wedding cake enough for 300! This was an all lemon with lemon filling cake for my Son & his beautiful bride.
Strawberry (pink for a girl) baby shower cake.
This wedding had a Shakespeare theme. Each layer was about 8 inches thick. I did a gold glitter glaze all over the top. It weighed about 30 lbs!
One of the court reporters requested something fun for her Sunday School class.
My First Tux Cake! All eatable!
Here is a volcano cake I did for a special little Red's b-day
I would love to take all the credit for this AWESOME "Death Star" cake but the truth is I spent hours trying to come up with an original idea...then Jimmy came up with this and very carefully created the death star. I then brushed the whole thing with silver dust to give the look of deep space. Honestly this is my favorite!

One of my 13...
The other day I did one of those dreaded FWDs: It asked me to pick a number, I picked 13. Then it asked me to name a person of the "same sex", I wrote down - Paula. So, as a result I discovered..my life is about to get better, (ok, good new's) I am to have 13 best friends in my life and that "Paula" will be one of them (duh...I already knew that). Here is a pic from last year.

Art Day Camp
Its summer and everyone is trying to find something fun for the kido's to do. I was able to get my Grand daughter in to the ArtCentral Day Camp here in Carthage, MO. This Sunday they are to display one piece of art using one of the themes suggested. She choose the "Mad Hatter" theme and revamped this cup using a paper scalloped edge flower that I just learned how to make in the "Attic" this last weekend (Thanks Paula!).

I've Come a Long Way Baby!
Not many people know this, but there was a time in my life that my youngest daughter and I had to stay in a women's shelter (kudos's to the Lafayette House, in Joplin MO). I was a prisoner in my body and in a horrid marriage. That little visit opened my eyes, I knew I had to take control of my life, have a life. Since that time, what seems like a life time ago, I divorced an evil man, lost 242 (yes I did...) lbs, found a great job (that I am so grateful for), bought my own home and just picked up a new car (the second one I have ever bought on my own).
It hasn't always been easy, but the struggle has been worth the outcome. Ive come a long way baby!
